"I was in a party of 8 family members celebrating a 60th Birthday. We came to the resturant on Saturday 26th April. We enjoyed the food and company and atmosphere very much. The food was tremendous and our heartful thanks go to the Husband and Wife team who made it possible.

"The new owners, a charming young husband and wife team from Derbyshire are a relaxed and friendly duo that is gently feeling the way of the current clientele. The lamb in the Lamb Wellington dish was firstly slow cooked in a gentle aromatic sauce then wrapped in a very thin pastry. The presentation was as unique as the natural habitat of the sheep on Dartmoor and truly inspired. To say it was original and natural would be an understatement. To follow, the chocolate fondant tart with a fine fine thin pastry left a memorable richness of texture and taste without having a chocolate oversdose. We are sure that as the couple feel their way and settle into Devon life they will also find a style of decorating the old school house with the Laughing Monk in a way that reflects their feelings about the village, the local producers, the clients and their own personalities. No boutique makeovers here I am sure; these are truly natural people."
